Kerala Backwaters Periyar

from the tea and spice rich Cardamon Hills went down at sea level in the backwaters of Kerala. Between Kochi and Trivandrum almost the coastal region of rivers, lakes, canals and rice fields is dotted. Here is water the dominant element. In many places, the lack of roads and the lives of people playing at, on and off the water. The first day / night we stayed on a houseboat, which was of course built in the classical style rice barge. After we boarded, we drove a few miles before we stopped the middle of a lake for lunch. Our crew consisted of a captain, a cook and an assistant. After dinner there was a digestive pause before the engine was started again and we went on a ride through rice fields and past small huts. Shortly before reaching the berth for the night it was still exciting, because the sky is recorded from a thunderstorm. The wind, before which our captain feared, took more and more and the lightning came closer. We liked the atmosphere very well and when we had created and then the rain had departed, everything was just as bad and we were served our dinner.
For the night we had a cabin with private bathroom and had the rest of the house boat very comfortable and nice. The next day it was
course, breakfast and a half hour drive to the port of Alleppey on the program. There also was waiting for our driver who took us first to the Beach of Alleppey and later drove towards Kochi for us to unload about 20 km outside the city in Iceland Pristine Resort. The hotel is located on an artificial Island with a garden and the rooms are designated as floating cottages, say they float on the water. After arriving we grabbed the available pedal boat and turned a lap on the backwaters. We also visited some people living on the shore or just sat there. In the evening a Sunset Cruise was announced. How can it happen in India, the boat had to be unfortunately, when the sun had already set one hour late start. A night drive also has its charm, especially when there was again a thunderstorm on mounting, only this time the boat was much smaller. With more luck than skill but the captain managed with the first big drops back to the resort. There we enjoyed the storm with rain on the balcony.
